Increase your confidence and competence to deliver inclusive and affirming care.

I am a healthcare professional with a passion for utilising my diverse lived experience to educate and empower other care professionals.

What you’re looking for

My lived experience consulting services could be a great fit if you’re a care professional looking for:

  • A supportive space to improve your knowledge, understanding and skills in working with people from diverse minority groups

  • An oppurtunity to strengthen your allyship in relationship with a peer with lived experience

  • A confidential, supportive and non-judgemental space to ask questions

  • A way to build on what you've learned through professional development

My Experience

The complex connection between eating disorders, gender identity, sexuality, neurodiversity and body size are subjects that many healthcare providers are recognizing and wanting to understand better. As a clinician, I bring both professional expertise and personal experience in these areas.

When noting my areas of experience, it is also necessary to acknowledge my privileges and areas where I lack firsthand knowledge:

  • White, Australian citizen

  • Financial and housing stability

  • Able-bodied

  • Small fat - unable to speak to experiences of those in larger bodies/who experience a greater degree of weight stigma

What does this look like?

Lived experience consulting has a similar structure to clinical supervision. We'll have one-on-one meetings online to discuss various topics, including:

  • Creating safer physical and relational spaces for your clients

  • Affirming practice principles for those with marginalised identities

  • Inclusive language in verbal communication, documentation and marketing materials

  • Specific case discussions

  • Direction to appropriate resources for further learning

Lived experience consulting is not about assuming that one person's experience speaks for everyone in a group. Instead, it recognizes that individual experiences can serve as a starting point to build understanding, respectful relationships, and point towards other sources of information. By engaging in this work, I acknowledge that there is always more to learn and that I don't have all the answers. I welcome the process of learning together.
